Meeting History
After more than two years, GFMAM had its first in-person meeting in Bahrain! A big thank you to our friends and colleagues at the Gulf Society for Maintenance & Reliability (GSMR) for hosting our GFMAM Member Representatives during our time in Manama. Eleven of our thirteen-member associations gathered for a full three-day meeting focusing on the affairs of GFMAM, updates from all our member societies, As part of the Face to Face Meeting, the GFMAM Annual General meeting was held. An update on the legal and financial affairs of the Society were presented and reported that all compliances are in place and in good standing.
In addition to our face to face meeting, several GFMAM representatives presented valuable education sessions during MaintCon 2022 (6th Middle East Maintenance & Reliability Conference) held at the Gulf Hotel, Kingdom of Bahrain. The Conference theme was: Industry 4.0 – Industrial Innovation & Technologies in the New Normal. GFMAM members in attendance who delivered education sessions, shared their knowledge and expertise with the almost 2,000 conference attendees. All presentations provided valuable information and insights into the Asset and Reliability Management industries, with a focus on the global shift to digitalization. Presenters represented over 20 countries providing a very diverse range of cultural knowledge and specialization.
The face-to-face meeting scheduled for the first half of 2022 was originally intended to be hosted by the Asset Management Council (AMC) in Australia during June 2022. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions on travel, the meeting was held virtually instead with four intensive sessions scheduled over a two-week period in May.
In spite of the challenge with having our society representatives resident in time zones across the globe - from Western Canada on the one side to Eastern Australia on the other - a great rhythm was established in terms of efficiently communicating the GFMAM and member Societies activities. The personal interaction is something that we all greatly miss and we are looking forward to our next planned face-to-face meeting in the second half of 2022.
For over 10 years GFMAM has maintained a pace of two major meetings every year which typically span three working days held in conjunction with attendance and contributions to a member’s conference. Due to the “new normal” that has been brought about by COVID-19 the GFMAM intends, going forward, to having at least one of these meetings virtually and the other face to face if possible. Our November 2021 meeting was held virtually with a schedule of 4 x 3-hour meetings over a two-week period accommodating attendees from all global time zones.
